People go through phases of thinking ping matters a lot, and thinking it doesn't. During the times when I have better ping, I start to think others are just bad rather than thinking they have a bad ping or PC. Most people who say that ping doesn't matter much actually have good ping themselves, or at least a decent computer. When I watch sixzoseven's videos, for example, he often talks about how other players make poor decisions, as if they lose fights because of poor PvP choices. Sixzoseven himself gets hundreds of fps, consistently less than 40 ping, and no lag spikes EVER. I personally consider him a "ping" player, because the majority of fights he wins, he would not have won were it not for his flawless internet and PC. He does not strategize as much as most good players out there, and he openly admits that he practically never takes a chest route. His videos are still fun to watch, nonetheless.
Anyways, I felt the need to get this point out there because today I played a couple games. In one of them I got into a fight with a disguised player. I had a stone sword and 1.5 armor bars, he had no weapon and 5.5 armor bars. He literally got an 8 hit combo on me. I tried strafing him, and getting him in the water, etc... Even while being directly underneath him he was continuing to get combos on me. When I finally killed him after a roughly 30-second long fight, I was at 2.5 hearts I believe. Then I got cleaned up. I knew he was not hacking because I was fairly certain he was a player with over 1000+ wins that had joined later in the lobby. It was just raw ping. For those of you who continue to think it's your skill doing everything for you, take a look at someone else's perspective. Most people do not have crazy ping like that, but some people literally have a block or two of extra reach compared to normal players.
Credit goes to G33ke for bringing this to my attention.
To start, why do you interchange a "decent computer" with "good ping"? No matter the computing strength of a computer, it won't have an effect on your connection to a server. The two are independent.
My internet is not flawless. No internet is flawless. Realize that I used to live in a completely different part of the United States for the majority of my time at this community. I didn't have any problems then, clearly demonstrating my ability to perform remarkably in combat. I have fought under many different conditions, especially with ping variances. Ping has a minute impact on my ability to PvP. If I have a higher ping, I simply need to compensate, by, for example, giving a bit more of a lead on my arrow shots.
If one accurately listened to my videos, one would understand why I don't go on chest routes - I simply don't need all the armor to kill people. I am highly confident in my abilities to kill just about anything in a game. I merely allow other tributes to go their routes. By doing so, they do the running and gathering for me. When I find them, I kill them and take all of the useful loot for myself. Being able to perform extremely well without running chest routes further demonstrates my strategies, seeing as most tributes do the "normal" strategy of running chest routes.
I've also won several challenging games where I limit my resources available. In example, If needed, I can go out and win some games without using weapons (FnS, sword/weapon, or bow&arrow) There's no way that's a result of my ping. Surely it's pure ability and strategy.
I definitely believe that you think I'm a "ping" player. Indeed, you do seem particularly superb at generating scapegoats and excuses for your individual lack of ability to perform up to my standards, or, at least, the standards of other players who are generally accepted and thought of as good. But, to each their own...By having the blatantly invalid personal sentiments and espousements from individuals, it allows others to discern who's right and who's wrong.
Interestingly enough, you claim I never have or get lag spikes. Honestly, everyone knows that's completely false, so I'll leave it at that.
I get a subpar connection/ping to popular PvP servers, yet I find myself doing equally or better than I do on MCG. Go figure.
Anyhow, I'm here to point out anything else you say that is blatantly wrong or invalid about me. Everyone has something they are good at - I feel I'm pretty adept in combat, and you are clearly a master in the art of wrong.
Edit: You mention how some players just have extra blocks of reach. I agree! Those players are cheaters/hackers. I don't cheat, however.
