Survival.
Shooting.
Swordplay.

Fighting to survive.
Fighting to get that fatal shot.
Fighting to best your opponent.

These are aspects of fighting people, in real life, and in the Hunger Games novels. The problem is, on The Survival games, it is not about skill, it's more so about who can click fastest, and who doesn't lag most. Which, is an unsolvable problem, fighting in general in Mine craft lacks intuitiveness and is generally bland. But the survival aspect of which these games get there name from could be incorporated more. I know the point of the Fyregames was to give a more survival-esque and slow place to these games, but I think it should be more of a struggle to SURVIVE the elements along with the endless combat. Nothing too drastic, just subtle things.
The inclusion of mobs would be good, I remember being almost always killed by them when I was weak. These, speed up the game and add a more "sleep and hide at night" feel to the games, similar to exposure in real life.
More mobs around the map, by mobs I mean Cows, and Pigs, but to balance this reduce the amount of food gotten from chests substantially. It would force people to hunt for animals and add more of a risk factor to the games.
I also think the cornucopia should be more risky, have mob spawners in the area surrounding it, imagine them as Mutts.

Yes we need mobs back, I agree :) I can still remember back when people fished with fishing rods. I'd hide in a tree near a lake and fish at night, it actually worked very well.

Wanna test that theory? :p (Look at my points in my signature if you don't know what I'm talking about. xD I never thought I'd say it, but Minecraft's combat actually has a lot of depth (Although admittedly not nearly as much as many other games.) and many people I fight that are new generally tend to fight completely differently than veteran users - I can generally take them down far easier. I only consider a few people a "hard fight". (It even makes me cringe watching most youtubers PvP...which is kinda sad. I dunno, I'm just really bothered when in my mind I have to go "Why didn't he do this!" >.>))

Anyway - more on the topic:

At one point in time, this is what MCSG was...mobs at night, large maps, long games, not a whole lot of food, hunting animals for it...this was the days of SG1, when it was the only map, alongside SG2. What happened is that, well, the community didn't like it as much as they do what we are today, sadly.

The community voted for mobs to stay or go about 50-50
The community votes for the small maps, SG4 and Breeze, almost every time...

That's what we are doing here at MCSG. We are listening to the community and making changes accordingly. The problem is that not everyone will agree. Some people probably came here for what you want it to be more like, but sadly, you have the rest of the community to blame for that, not us...if we are to continue keeping the server running and popular, we just have to keep doing just that - changing things in a way that some people may not like.

This doesn't mean we aren't willing to make compromises, though...some maps still do have mobs for hunting, just not hostile ones, and the voting system will be getting a change soon to prevent it always being SG4 and Breeze, even though the majority still loves it - that's just a few examples...but wait until the 48 player servers come around - I doubt you'll see Breeze and SG4 on there, more players means more early action, which will die off into that long first night, searching for food...I think the 48 player servers might be what you're looking for. :p Not just that though, but all of MCSGv2 should bring along many, many changes. Even I'm not aware of what these changes will be, aside from the leaked ones among the forums...we'll see what happens then.

I think these ideas would be awesome for the supposedly upcoming 48 player servers. Have huge maps, and add lots of creepers and spiders. :D I've been playing MCSG so much, it's been a very long time since I've seen a creeper! I miss them. :(

Oddly enough I find myself disagreeing. I've come to cherish the person vs. person aspect, and the strategy involved with dealing with each unique tribute in each unique battle, accepting MCSG as a combination of luck, knowledge, skill, and wits. I feel like adding outside factors like mobs would detract from the whole point of Player VS Player.

Fighting in Minecraft is bland? Sir, you can light people on fire, eat golden apples, sneak some bow shots, and kill the enemy all in a couple seconds. This is not bland at all.

Although SG is based off of the actual Hunger Games series, the Minecraft version has adapted to a different game. Furnaces don't give off smoke. Fire doesn't spread. We don't feel cold or hot. We can eat raw food. While you may find it bland, SG is fun to most of the people who play since we can't do it in real life.

In comparison to other games you are very limited combat-wise, but much like Minecraft itself you can craft it into your own art. In addition, Jokers, when did I ever say the Survival Games were bland? I merely said the combat is lacks intuitiveness and is quite bland, I think this is a brilliant concept and I've been playing since SG beta, I just think Minecraft restricts the games a little. Schikes, I also agree that this is a PVP environment for PvP, from what you're saying it sounds like it would remove taste from the Survival games dish, not ALL people will die to mobs, it just adds a little more spice with them included. It's quite intense when your being chased by a player... and them being chased by an undead horde. Finally, Jayes, yes, you can do all this stuff, but does it flow like a stream much like other games? You may say it's unique, but a purple nuclear is also unique, but not necessarily good when it's heading straight for you. Also, G33ke, hi, I agree that the SG needs to adapt to survive along with the tributes. But by adapting you are losing what you originally were. I agree with everything else that you've said, and I know "the customer is always right" etc. etc., but by going forward like this, you'll lose old players because of the new aspects, in turn you'll gain new players, but if the older players have stuck around this long, how do you know the new audience will be as loyal?
By the way, I'm in no way "dissing" the survival games at all, I love it a lot, just thought this was an interesting topic. There are a lot of opinions on this matter, so why not allow them to be shared?

God please don't add mobs back. Trust as a beta player I know what I'm saying. The mobs were extremely powerful. You practically HAD to camp in a tree every night. Your gear didn't matter at all. Imagine having full iron armor and a diamond sword taking out a 2 man team like a boss and then losing everything you worked for that game to a creeper that got you soon after you took out the team. Please don't ak for mobs back. It's better this way. :)

Simple fix - Remove creeper spawning, turn mod difficulty down, I like having the rotten flesh as a sort of iffy food source, skellies for arrows, spiders for.... poison eyes. I liked mobs, they were just overpowered back then.
