Can't connect to the servers

I have entered roughly 20 different ip adresses into my Minecraft and none of them work. when try to enter one that is in lobby it says "java.net.socketexception: host is down". It may be because i use a Mac and not a PC but im not sure.

It also occasionally stats "connection refused" and my Minecraft is a legitimate account
