A while ago, Shaun posted a thread about experience and enchantments. He said it would be cool if you could get exp from players...So last night, i remembered that and searched for a plugin that does that. And i found one! http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/pvpdrop/ I atleast hope it does that and i'm not misunderstanding it.... I think this plugin (must not be this, just the concept of getting exp from players) would be a nice improvement to the servers, because there are enchantment tables in lots of the maps, and now they actually would get a use :) Maybe when you kill about 4-5 players that round, you've got one level? Like this its not that OP

The thing is, our plugin is tailor made and we've already got enough added to it in the newer version of it. I can see this creating lag if someone kills a bunch of animals and then falls to their death, leaving behind the xp orbs to lag everything.

Also, not all players actually collect any xp anymore. When MCSG was a little younger getting xp was good because you can go up against good players with buffed up weapons but no-one ever does it anymore. It's not a big thing anymore to get a bunch of xp and enchant your weapons and armour. People just can't be bothered with it.

It seems like a good idea, but probably not for these servers as an average game in our days lasts 10 minutes at most (unlike the old days where I can remember staying in games until the timer ran out and DM was started xD) and trying to run around, getting all that xp from players and animals in ten minutes? Most of the time its not worth it, especially in a map like Breeze Island which I think the longest I've been in one was about 7 mins from getting tp'd to the podiums to deathmatch.

I just don't think its worth it.

Orbs wouldn't lag up a server anymore then items and other entities do. How can you say people wouldn't bother to? The reason why players stopped attempting to is due to the fact that mobs were disabled... Which is the reason behind the whole suggestion. With this, a good player would be able to enchant within 7 minutes, heading to the nerf idea - a few players should give a lot more xp levels then one, because it will be balanced out either way with the random enchantment chances.

The thing is though, its a game where you have to kill other people, not run around gaining xp from killing mobs and animals to gain xp. There are easier ways to gain xp other than killing players. I think adding this plugin would be unnessicary and after what our devs have been through working on the new plugin, I can't see them adding it either.

The reason why we disabled mobs is because map 4 (which ironically now is the only map where mobs still sometime spawn) was too dark at the centre and people would leave and hundreds of hostile mobs would spawn. Because we never fixed the issue, Chad decided to leave them off, except for the 120 servers which had them on, but not enough people were filling them up and using them so Chad scrapped the idea.

And a final thing, I think players don't NEED enchanted stuff to win. Sure, its nice to have a sword with sharpness or knockback but in the few times where I've done to enchant something, I've never gotten anything good so I gave up. I've got something like 20 or so wins on EU and not once have I ever won one of those games with an enchanted weapon or armour. I think that if you really just wanted to have fun you wouldn't want enchanted weapons. Only the competitive people want enchanted weapons and so be honest, if you're getting competitive over a game like Minecraft, then you might want to rethink a couple things.

There are not easier ways to gain exp, considering players are everywhere and animals are hardly anywhere adn mobs are nowhere. Add player exp and there will be 23 targets a game with exp on them.

That's map 3 actually and mobs don't need to be turned back on, we need player exp.

Uhm I would say a player could definitely use an enchanted weapon to win. If a wood sword has sharpness II then it's as good as an iron sword I think because sharpness adds 1/2 heart per level. Armor enchanted to block damage could be insanely helpful. No one gets anything good because no one gets any levels. I know, it's kind of hard to kill 20 pigs and then enchant a stone sword to get bane of arthropods II, which is why player exp is necessary. I would find enchanted weapons plenty fun and plenty useful, it adds a whole new dimension to play. And I really don't see what's so bad about being competitive. There's 24 people and only 1 wins what's not competitive about that?

Players are hard to find on some of the larger maps and even on the smaller maps if they get stuck, how are you going to collect the xp afterwards?

Okay, I got the map wrong xD Sorry, was half asleep when I wrote that.
Anyhoo, you don't NEED anything. What you NEED is to stop demanding new things to be added to a plugin or servers that don't need them.

Being competitive about a game like this is not really all that big of a deal. Sure its nice to have your name on the leaderboards but most people come here to have FUN and being competitive all the time, challenging people you've never met to 'come at me bro' in the lobby is a little sad. I came to the games to have fun, I never once got competitive and you'll probably be thinking right now 'oh she's a complete noob, only 20 or something wins and she's only saying she's here for fun because she knows she's a noob and that she can't win'. That's not true, I came here to have fun, meet some new people (And I have, and they're great people) and just have fun. I've never once thought about joining a clan, I was in one, yes, but that was purely friends and not competitive people searching for wins and for points.

MCSG is loosing that, more and more people are demanding plugins like these because they want wins and points. You know having over 2000 points doesn't get you anything, right? Having over 50 wins doesn't mean Chad will send you 30 dollars. Points and wins mean nothing here, they don't effect your real life in anyway. You don't get money, you don't get you name in special giant purple letters at the top of the forums when you get top in EU or US or AU, you don't get anything apart from that competitive attitude that most of the community has in our days.

I remember back in Beta, when it was played for fun and people didn't really care about wins. I've jumped off buildings in map 2 and 4 to kill myself when its come to DM because I just don't care. Wins and points mean nothing to me.

But of course, if you want to waste your life away here, not meeting any people because you're too focused on becoming top of AU or whatever, then do that.

Also, I'm pretty sure this plugin will never be put in to the servers so yeah...
