Think about the gameplay.
Playing on mobile is so much harder than PC in terms of mobility, attack rate, turning around, and item usage. Fishing rod tactic? Impossible. People who used the PE would be at a major disadvantage.
Plus, does PE have all the blocks that PC does?
There would have to be separate servers for PE and the PC version. I'm not sure if this is what you meant originally.

But, think of this. PC's Minecraft is a bit ahead of PE. If PE updates to 1.7, chances are, the PC version will have already updated to 1.8 (Probably).
