Magic Launcher won't work for this because optifine 1.6 isn't ready yet. And I think that the only way to play 1.6 at this moment is to use the new minecraft launcher. I wish Magic Launcher worked to, I used to use it until this up date D:
It does work...
Update Magic Launcher to 1.1.6, and then click Setup -> Enviroment (click the drop down list -where it says Classic-), and then select 1.6.1.

and the OP was asking how to install mods with the new 1.6 update since there isn't a bin folder.

When it does come out, in your .minecraft folder, go into versions, open your 1.6.1 jar, place the files and delete META-INF, and you're set.

You do not need magic launcher.

I don't like anything about the update LMAO. I mean horses.... okay. LET'S EAT IT. But other than that... :/.
The builds will look a lot more realistic in the upcoming maps. Because of the clayblocks and carpets. Also they didnt mess up the redstone which they tend to do a lot, and Survival is a lot more cooler because zombies spawn in hordes.
So besides the bugs, very cool update :p

The only thing this update was worth was installation of horses but other than that it made it harder to do everything

I suppose, but along with these fancy features comes a massive FPS loss (from 56 to 12 for me) and a launcher that's required to actually launch the game (whereas before you just had to double-click the game and it would open).
But I do agree with you: the clayblocks, and zombies spawning in hordes makes things in Minecraft just a tad bit more realistic :).
