Sprint button?

A guy I had on steam made a mod thing that basically meant that you could bind a key to turn on sprint by pressing it once, rather than doubletapping W. Dont confuse it with a perma-sprint hack, if you were to collide with something, the sprint would end and you'd have to push the button to sprint again.
Is this 'Legal' so to speak? If it is, then I plan on using it, if not, then I won't.
