Watch videos of players that are very skilled and you will pick up their habits without even trying; in turn improving your skills. (Which should improve your ratio :p) Back when I was learning pvp it was Blamph and nate252's videos that got me through, these days I'd probably go with guys like Huahwi. And it doesn't have to be only videos that are specifically tutorial type ones, any of them will help if you watch enough of them. May not work for everyone but it certainly did for me.

I must say however the average player is a heck of a lot better now than say a year ago. It definitely takes a lot more work to be very successful in MCSG now. But I'm sure with the right amount of strategy and practice, it can definitely be done by anyone. Good luck. :)

I personally can say I find US easier than AU player wise but the connection disadvantage is too much; My ratio is slowly improving at one stage it was 1/25 or there bouts, now it is slightly better than 1/10.
Sadly in AU it is hard to get a game without someone who has over 700 wins and is a god at PVP, Just keep playing on your account and don't care about your ratio and when you see fit purchase another Minecraft account then have a sick ratio.

Exactly the way to go, I played 100 games on my first account, I had something like 15/100 then I bought this account :)

I personally feel better having one and only one account and seeing how good you can make your ratio over time. It probably took me 100+ games to get my first win, and for a good long while I probably won only about 1 out of 20. I really don't know how my total ratio is what it is now. :p

You should go on Kit-PvP servers if you want to practice PvP without messing up your W/L ratio. It took me 100 games to get my first win, and now my ratio is around 1/8, which is ok. Good luck. :)

Don't worry about your w/l ratio. It doesn't show anything about your pvp skill.

Honestly, I would not recommend play the same way as someone else. Find your own way of playing, and be unique. Don't stress yourself, but play in a way that you are comfortable with. If you die, just look back at what you can do to avoid that situation in the future. Don't rage, but don't rage about your own mistakes. At the end of the day, your ratio does not really show how skillful you are, just how many games you have won and lost, and having a bad ratio may as well just make you an underdog ;)

Similar to what Crackling said, there is no such thing as a BEST way to pvp, it depends on what you think your good at, and as much as you have good routes, know all the pvp tricks, and all the good strategies, you may still not be good at pvp. If i were you, i would go on a pvp practice server and try different techniques, or perfect what you already can do well. When it comes down to it, you need to find the source of the problem, that is the only way to get better. If you want a bit of helpful insight, try why mcsg montages on youtube, that will give you an idea of how other people pvp.

Hope it helps

I need help! My win/loss ratio is terrible (10/856 or 1 in 85.6 games won)! The average ratio for winning games is 1/24.
I'm putting this up for my friend as well (win/loss of 5/543), as they have a very sad score too.
Whenever I team, one of us screws up and I get a little annoyed, and look for someone to blame, so I generally solo things. Our team is really weak, and no matter what gear we have, one guy somehow always manages to kill our team easily. Idek
how that's possible when we both have full iron and a guy in full leather solos us. :p
I've tried PvP guides, PvP videos, chest routes, PvP servers and PvP tutorials to make me better - nothing seems to work though. For 90% of maps I have a chest route which gives me at least 1-2 tier 2's, and I am generally pretty stacked when I fight.
Whenever I fight, I try to surprise attack my opponent, critical them and strafe to get behind them. It makes no difference. I still lose, even when I try to light them with a FnS (my favorite secondary other than a bow despite the fact in FFA I constantly light myself as well).
Quick-switching is really hard to do and seems pointless as scrolling works fine. Block-hitting also seems pointless as it makes you move as if you're in a cobweb.
I already know things like arrows dip when underwater, how to dodge bowshots pretty well, to come in with a sword when your opponent has the wrong weapon out and criticaling only happens while falling.
Part of the games I've lost are due to lag spikes (1/10 at least), but overall I constantly die in PvP fights. When i get to a deathmatch, i try to stay out of the way but of course I get killed first anyway. Every map I've won on has been purely luck-based (8/10 times I've won on maps when I hate them so much, I'm feeling REALLY annoyed and I have worse than half chain armor). Take Rugged Lands for example. I hadn't heard of it before I got chased around for 20 mins, killed a guy, made it to dmatch and with the equivalent of a chain chest and leggings, killed a guy in full iron with a diamond sword.
I would love to put some videos up, but I can't due to stupid graphics cards (Most of the time Bandicam crashes the GUI of my computer, not the sounds, CamStudio gives Minecraft sticky keys, Fraps downright crashes my graphics card and so on, and they all make my computer lag as well).
Take a look at my stats. They're hopeless. I'm not trying to be incredible at PvP, and I understand someone needs to be a noob at MCSG, as not everyone can be pro, but I would like to improve a bit at least (Maybe a ratio of 1/20?).
I really would like some help, as I dislike playing on MCSG now for fear of making my stats even worse.
I hope you can help even though I can't put any videos up. Thanks guys!

I have two current theories....
The first being MCSG is full of hackers..... I was once ranked #1 in all of mcsg, Then I was in the top 10 for a while... In the past 6 months I have played the same amount of games but have fallen to rank #90. In a few weeks I wont even be in the top 100.... I have won 0 out of my last 100 games....
The second theory is that my game play hahs not improved while the rest of the community, and by that i mean every player in every server is far better than they were before and I can no longer win a game.... Its bene about 4 months since I won a game when I used to win 10+ games in a row, my longest streak of winning was 34. So I find this second theory highly unlikely...
So what can you do to improve your game play. Well with the current state of mcsg, I would almost suggest hacking. I see hackers in every server, report them to mods, who do nothing, and the hacker ends up winning every game until the server restarts and they pick a different server. This is not a good option as you could potentially be banned.
Your second option is to team with your friends... If you can't find a teammate team with me. Contrary to popular belief I do not backstab everyone.... I will help you improve your pvp and map awareness.
Third option go to the battlegrounds until you can kill10 people in a row without dying. Or go to a server like roxbot and practice pvp.
Fourth option is find a different server that doesn't have all the hackers and lag that mcsg does.

When I first met you, I literally asked you, "Is it true that you backstab everyone?" You said no, and then you backstabbed me. ;'(

But yeah, I think you stopped backstabbing..? xD

Thanks so much guys! All your tips are appreciated and I would love to reply to all your comments, but I don't have time.
I'll try playing battlegrounds, and I'm watching videos by Huahwi.
So thanks guys, I'll try and practice but at the moment I'm busy with my map.
Thanks again!
