This thread is an answer to "The Advantages of the 1.8 Update (or "1.8 - Day 24 Update")" from the News section.
It's easier to be seen than an actual answer, so that's why I am doing it here.

Firstly, my opinion is that people did adapt to the change 1.8 has brought, but they are simply not enjoing it. Eventhough Col_Star said that only "some people just cannot be convinced to adapt to such changes." and not all, that "some" most likely reffers to the people making negative threads about the 1.8 update.

Secondly, regarding the "Fewer Hacks and Less Hackers" part of the thread, there are a lot of videos on YouTube where hackers are basically impossible to kill without arrows or a flint and steel. Not only the hackers came back, but they are even harder to kill than they were before. Simple Cleansweeps might just not be enough to eliminate the hackers at this point.

I've seen more threads and more people complaining about performance issues on 1.8 than I did on 1.7. Plus, the fix to this issue (located on other threads) is to enable a setting that can be supported only by some graphics cards, leaving the players with weaker cards (or integrated cards) with a laggy gameplay.

Regarding the "New Map Blocks and Items", the MCG network got known for Survival Games and PvP, and most don't actually care about the new blocks. Actually, Huahwi died in a video from a glitch created by the "New Map Blocks" (Slime blocks) so these new blocks and items have brought bugs and glitches, just like 1.8 in general.

"The Spectating Feature" - I can't say that the old spectating was better (eventhough it was) because people would consider be unable to adapt to the game. Anyway, I like playing a game more than spectating it, so I can't really say anything else about "The Spectating Feature".

"Increased Developer Efficiency and Abilities" - I understand that “dual protocols” require more time, but a lot of servers are doing this (even larger networks such as Hive). In a previous post, someone said that more players play on 1.8 than 1.7, which is a thing I don't belive due to the amount of players that quit. I am not talking about the well-known players, I am talking about most of the players. Thejambd recorded episode 165 on Badlion, becuase "the servers were crashing", which is not 1.8 relevant, and "there only were 3 games at a time", which IS 1.8 relevant. He also said in that video that you guys should admit that you made a mistake when updating to 1.8 only, and remember that from YouTubers like him new players learn about the servers. A mistake that Huahwi said you guys make is that you don't listen to the Youtubers (the people that advertise MCSG). I want to add that you don't listen to the community itself.

I do know that MCSG fanboys will most likely disagree with everyting I said, but this is an opinion, which helps more than "Great work guys" and other comments like that (I actually say the wrong things that should be fixed).

I do also know that 1.7 had it's problems too (like hacking) but at the end of the 1.7 support there weren't actually many hackers and with each cleansweep the number of hackers was decreasing.

I think MCG has done a lot about hackers, with permanent bans for instance. I've played 20 games of MCSG and I havent spotted a single hacker, and I play on EU xD

It depends of when you've played, bcfcant said the best times to play without there being hackers and teamers (it seems that when kids come home from school in England the hackers come too)

First off, thank you for writing this, it's a very good and thoughtful thread.
I'll quote what I think needs to be adressed. Things I didn't quote, I probably agree with.

These kinds of things frustrate me. I feel like when YouTubers see a change to MCSG that they don't like, they complain about it,
and then they get their whole fanbase to just be a pain in the neck. Let's take Bajan's old case. He got banned for better sprint. Then, he decided to criticize the mods, because banning him for breaking a rule was apparently an unthinkable act. Ever since then, some Bajan fanboys have just been a pain to MCSG. Emphasis on "some" because some of them understood the truth of it.
People criticize the staff for updating, which has had many benefits. I know that they should listen to the majority of their
players. Here's my argument: if they did that, we would keep 1.7 until 1.9 came. Now that would be terribly hard to get used to. So we would still stay on 1.7, and as other servers updated to become better, we would be stuck in the past. The staff is trying to help us in the long run, even if that means ignoring the outcry of YouTubers that aren't adapting as fast as they want to be.
"The Spectating Feature" - I can't say that the old spectating was better (eventhough it was) because people would consider be unable to adapt to the game. Anyway, I like playing a game more than spectating it, so I can't really say anything else about "The Spectating Feature".
I don't get why people say the new spectator feature is bad. Do people not know about the hotbar feature, or do they just think
it's bad? When we got 1.8 spectating, we stopped spec-blocking, boat breaking, and more. And now we have first person!

1.8 isn't special; any update to MCSG is going to have glitches. New blocks are always better, even if people may not appreciate
them. If 1.8 only updated for new blocks, that would be pretty dumb. These blocks are just a bonus reason for updating, and yet people still oppose these features.

Thanks, and I hope we can hold a peaceful debate.

Yes, I hope that too.

Youtubers shouldn't make their fanboys hate on a community, but they are people, just like us two, so they have the right to an opinon. They are also the ones who advertise that certain community (MCSG in this case) by making videos about it. I found out about MCSG from some YouTubers, and I bet you money I am not the only one. This community has increased a lot since it was created thanks to the YouTubers, and I feel like MCSG should respect that and make their videos more entertaining by listening to what the content creators actually want (the 1.8 update is something that many big Youtubers are against, so it's not just one persons opinion). People want the "dual protocols" back, which is something most large networks have.

The spectator feature is fixing some things I guess, and I personally don't care about it too much.. it's an OK feature I guess..

The new blocks aren't really a reason to update. These new blocks mean more than a community? They don't, and the staff team shouldn't think that helping in the long run is better than listening to the community. And in the thread I responded to, they are not called a bonus nor a reason. They actually call these new blocks a benefit, and I personally don't care about them. I really don't get entertained by any "benefit" of the 1.8 update (including the new blocks).

I agree. YouTubers complaining is kind of like going on strike. We need them as much as they need us.
However, I still think the goal of updating early was to help us later on.

Suggestion: Voting for the changes. MCSG could be like the government, with YouTubers being representatives or something.
(Now I have to make a thread about that xD.) I hope that future staff decisions get more feedback, and I hope they consider it more.

As great as that system sounds, it's unlikely that the staff team would accept. Still, good luck on that thread XD

Electrix said it all...
I honestly don't know why people complain about youtubers not getting a say in the changes. A lot of people talk like youtubers should always be asked before changes are made, when in reality they are just players like everyone else.
About the "Hackers are harder to kill now" I don't agree with that at all, hackers were always almost impossible to kill without using a bow and FNS.
The "Increased Developer Efficiency and Abilities" isn't just about how much time they were wasting updating two different versions. There are a ton of new features that the developers are either using, or working on implementing. A great example of this is the new disguise plugin, using 1.8 features they were able to make disguised players have skins, which makes them considerably harder to spot.
Other than that, i think Electrix pretty much summed up my opinion.

YouTubers pretty much advertise the server for free, and they get known for putting up a certain content. If you guys change that content and make them move to other networks, you are going to lose a lot of people.
I am not going to say the name of the network that runs "dual-protocols" and develops plugins that detect kill aura or auto-clicker because you probably know it already.

All networks HAVE to upgrade their software at some point. 1.9 snapshots are underway, and some networks are still running on 1.7. I think it is great that MC Gamer has upgraded to 1.8! All of the 'PVP is bad in 1.8' is a lie, it has not changed. There may be a few issues (like the slimeblocks) which is expected. In fact, I have had a better time playing since the 1.8 update than with the 1.7 / 1.8 protocol hack or on 1.7 in general.
