Now, I'm quite aware that we actually have a lot of maps to play in. For a while, I was actually more than satisfied with the map selection. But the sad reality, at least in the servers I visit, is that if 4 or Breeze aren't in the list of maps to vote for, everyone skipvotes until they are and then it's just those 2 maps every game. I would love to give my opinion on the 5th official map, I really would, but I simply haven't managed to join a server that's willing to vote for the 5th map.
This is not only a trend I abhor, but one I cannot understand. Has it risen out of ruthless practicality, because people don't want to have to prepare several different chest routes and complex strategies on large-scale maps? Or is it because they've grown tired of long rounds and simply prefer 10-minute bloodbaths in a small arena to save time? Perhaps a select few prefer these maps for the reasons above, and have most effectively manipulated a complicit, apathetic majority into agreeing with them.
Never mind, my rant is sounding almost conspiratorial now. I remember a time when a new map was introduced, everyone would vote for it. The perceived quality of the map didn't really matter. This trend has reversed, and now people are much more likely to vote for 'classics' like the 2nd map or Breeze Island than, say, Survival Kingdom. In fact, 4's popularity would be surprising if not for its small size. In fact, 'small' or 'classic' are the 2 words I hear most often when I ask why people prefer these maps so much.
Anyways, thanks for (presumably) bothering to read all of this rambly nonsense. What do you think? Is this a problem? Will it only be temporary? Or am I just delusional and none of this is actually happening? I would love to hear the rest of the community's thoughts on this.
