Half the community wouldn't be gone. People always say that, and it never happens, if it happens, it will happen, you will have to adapt to 1.9 and get over it.
Adapting to duel wielding and arrows with potion effects... Lmao I don't think so.

You're going to have to, if you don't think you can, don't use it. They're not forcing you to use duel wielding, its just there for you to use and maybe master.

People are not open to "change" if everyone has the ability to be at the same level, then the game hasn't genuinely changed. Mojang is trying to improve the game by giving more modded-like gameplay into vanilla. If MCSG does not update to 1.9, it will be disappointing. It might as well be a legacy server. I think that it is a good step forward. New blocks for map makers, and more PVP variables. Right now, it may not be balanced, but that's why it's a snapshot.

The people at MCGamer aren't stupid, if the update is something that would make the server less playable or enjoyable it wouldnt be done.
Well let's just hope that applies so that we don't have another case of "I hate this version so I'm going to Badlion."

The problem with 1.9 right now is that Minecraft is about options, and PvP has had only one version: the current one. I mean in terms of range, power, speed, knockback, and much more, PvP is widely the same no matter what server you're on. Sure, some will be laggy, others will have no-reach-hacks filters to limit range, but server owners can't make PvP just the way they like it.

To me, the server settings should allow the editing of range, knockback, and the enabling of the sprint key and dual wielding. However, I doubt Mojang will realize that options have made Minecraft successful.

First of all, welcome to MCGamer!

Do I think 1.9 will ruin SG? No, I just think we are scared of change. In a map maker's perspective, new blocks is always a plus. The developers and Administrative team will have to make some executive decisions regarding whether to add the new arrows etc. But I doubt that 1.9 will 'ruin' SG, but most likely will bring a change if we update to it (which I assume we will).

Yep, this sums it up. We are scared of change. When 1.7 came out, there were threads to stay on 1.6. When 1.8 came out, don't even get me started. But people adapted. If you seriously want to STAY on 1.8 after wanting to STAY on 1.7, don't even bother. We don't need your flame comments. We want you to support MCGamer and keep this community good.

I honestly hope that MCSG won't update to it, but it will most likely happen anyways.

1.9 will be weird and different, yes. Will it be liked in the beginning? No, but almost no new versions are absolute hits, and as things go on stuff will be fixed and everything will be okay. It's unlikely any of these weird features will be implemented anyway, my only problem is that all texture packs are incompatable now, so we'll have to start fresh, like it used to be prior to 1.7.

It's unfair to say that it will ruin PvP when not everyone has actually experienced it in a PvP situation, who knows; it might be great!

The thing is that they aren't changing anything from 1.8, just adding new things. So we'll have to make a custom NCP for the version instead of keeping 1.7's AC. That's basically the only way to make 1.8 PvP fun: base your programs around it instead of making them compatible with it.
