Hey, I've been an avid player since the games started, I remember that the last member who joined would be kicked.

Now that seems to have changed? I've been in a server since it restarted and there has been ten seconds left in the game, then I've been kicked, how does that work? It still says here -

That the last joined non donator gets kicked.

"Servers are always full? All donors have what we call "Donor Priority" where you can log into a server that is full. The server will kick the last joined spectator (not a tribute) to make room for you. Each donor rank has its own special color in game so people can see you have supported in the game and on the forums."

Seriously, this is irritating.

I think you answered your own question here. You were the last non-donor to have joined.

Considering I said I'd been in the server since the start, when it is empty, until ten seconds beforehand. I don't think I was.

They will kick the last joined player, so lets say people join in this order -
Kim, James, Bill, Tom, Steve, Drake, Steve, And so on so forth up until 24. The names are in assending order, so Kim joined first.

Now if TheRandomMan1000 joins, Kim will be kicked.
But then, RC_4777 joins, James will be kicked, so on so forth.
If your early to join, if more and more donors join you'll get kicked.
There are ways to avoid being kicked though ---

  • Refreshing - This doesn't always work very well, but try to refresh, then scroll over the list looking for a server not in lobby, but in endgame. Refreshing more, keep going to the server you found in endgame. Continue to refresh until the server resets and goes into lobby. Join as fast as possible.
  • Later numbered servers - One of the more effective methods is to keep a close eye on servers 30-40. Most donors join the first server they see open (generally 1-20.) That means that your much less likely to get kicked on later numbered servers.
  • Playtime - This one is rather undesirable, but works if you really want to play. Try joining at unusual playtimes. Staying up later or getting up earlier to play works, as less people are playing so servers fill up slower and less donors join.
  • Country hopping - This is similar to the previous suggestion. Try joining countries from other servers for non-prime times in their countries. While it may be dark in say, EU and less people are playing, it may still be mid-day for US. This being said if you play cross-country you can join servers that are less full while it's still day.
  • Donating is always the best option, but I realize not every one can.

Are you are sure that you were first, and that everybody else had been kicked for donors beforehand?

Also, trying playing on the higher numbers, like 20-40. Donors tend to flock to the single-digit servers, so it's quite often that the games are filled with donators. Especially in US.
