I love this community, i really do, i may not love the game as it is right now, but boy did i love what it was. Around a year ago, the fourth of april Minecraft 1.2.5 came out, this is also the last update where there were no major or minor lag problems with MCSG. The first day of August the 1.3.1update released, a week later the servers updated for this version. This was when the honeymoon stage of our drug addiction ended.

MCSG will by many be remembered for this time, from 1.2.5 till 1.3.1 as the glory days. And for many reasons. We were building the community, the Survival Games were fresh and exciting to a degree it can only be when you first discover it and friendships were made. This is when our addiction started. We loved it, it was summer break for many of us and we could play alot of it, there were bugs, but so minor that we did not care, so minor that we wouldn't call them bugs today. And lag was non-excistent. This is how i remember it, but then again our mind deceives us. It takes bad things that happened and make them smaller than they really were. Maybe that is why we think it was so good? But what then about all the people complaining about how bad MCSG is today compared to, "back in the day"?

When 1.3.1 was released we were introduced to lag for the first time. It was nothing compared to what would come with NCP and other updates, but at the time it was major. Now the drug reference comes in. In the beggining it is great, nothing is bad about it, but after awhile it all falls apart, you can't get that same "high" as you used to, the problems with it appears, but you think back to how good it used to be and say to yourself that this is just a phase and it will go back to what it used to be. But it doesn't. We are still falling, waiting for someone to throw down a rope so we can climb back up, or we hit the bottom, and then we have to climb from there

I believe that many of the people defending MCSG when people say that it sucks compared to what it used to be, doesn't know what these people are comparing it too. If you're comparing 1.5 to 1.3 it isn't that much of a difference, but it you compare 1.5 to 1.2.5, well...

I don't think MCSG is bad as it is right now, more and more people are playing everyday, but at the same time we are loosing some of thouse guys who build the core back when it started, this is natural, but maybe if it wasn't so different from back in the days as it is now, we wouldn't loose as many? Or maybe it wasn't that good? For me it was.

MCSG isn't bad right now, but i know that for me, and i think for others, it is sad to see what it is right now compared to what we know it can be, what it once was.

Man, there's no lie in saying that 1.2.5 was the glory days, oh the old videos of mlgprorush, nate252, and somemugger that I've been watching, longing for those days in mcsg. I even had time to think about those glory days today, since I had my big, end of year test, that they allocate way to much time on (like 100 minutes too much). I long for the old lobby, the servers not restarting, old chests, no voting, mobs, spider armies, etc. :( I wish I could go back to those days, knowing what was to come; bacca's, ncp, sg 4, breeze island, voting, disappearance of mobs, many fixed glitches that I somewhat enjoyed, full iron armor in every chest.. had I known what was to come, I probably would have enjoyed those times even more.

Mcsg hasn't made me sweat, made my heart pound, or made my mind go into hyper real life survival mode since those hot summer days in July where I would come home from day camp and play an intense round of Mcsg. Some so intense they took me 55 minutes and I had to have water breaks and bathroom breaks. Sometimes games would make me so nervous and excited I would have to change shirts from the sweat and I would be too rattled to play another. But now... Breeze island:bacca team kills you; sg4; win, breeze; another big team; solar: get killed by hacker.

Wow. Just wow. This was incredibly well written and factual. Props to you sir, props to you.

In response, I agree with the larger percentage of what was stated in this post, and I don't really disagree with anything, but I'd still like to respond to this. The following isn't 100% related to your discussion, so when I bring up negatives, remember they aren't aimed at you ;)

MCSG will forever and always be a large part of the minecraft community, heck, minecraft in general. There was a statistic somewhere, that said 1/3 of every minecraft account had visited these servers at least once (at least that's what I think, correct me if I'm wrong). That is 1/3 of 10,000,000+ accounts. That is, if you couldn't already tell, a ginormous proportion of players. I do not believe MCSG is going anywhere anytime soon, how could it? With this many players, we are going on strong gaining more everyday. Bad things could happen sure, but at this point of MCSG's monumentus success, it will only chip a small hole in a wall of Obsidian forged by the community, and every player who truly believes in MCSG.

On the topic of this wall, this bond we've created with one another, it can most certainly be chipped, sometimes enough to do significant damage, but I truly believe this community will always be able to re-build it, and rise to the occasion. Hackers, spammers, people set out to ruin others experiences are the pick axes, slowly chipping away at the foundations of MCSG. While you might think "Gee, there are a lot of hackers, how is this 'wall' not destroyed?' One word that will be mentioned an incredulous amount of times throughout this post, community. Those honest, tried and true members of our community, the players who take time to report the rule- breakers, the players who play by the rules, and care about MCSG, and keeping its image and prosperity. On the topic of amazing community members, we will always have staff members, players who dedicate their MCSG career to making the community a better place for everyone, and repairing that wall. Without the staff, that wall would crumble faster than we could react, and leave MCSG like a strayed animal, unknowing of which way to turn, what to do next. As I'm on the topic, I want to sincerely thank any staff member that might come across this post. Without you, we'd be a particle of a server, wallowing in the rule-breakers who aim to ruin the game. While it is not entirely staff members, the community is just as much a part in it, the staff members are to be held mainly responsible for the class of servers, and following that, to be held responsible for the outcomes, in this case, incredible.

While we have possibly had an increase of hackers, lag, and/or server glitches lately, we have not exactly come off our 'high'. We've unfortunately watched many of our older community members lose interest, and fade away from their once loved MCSG. While this is saddening, we mustn't lose hope. There is a chance, a good chance we can go back to these 'Glory Days' of 1.2.5. This situation is almost perfect for the cliche, "Anything is possible", because it really is. We welcome new members almost every day, and can once again form these bonds. We can hope for the lag to die, as I believe it mostly has, and we can regain our 'High.' The glory days are not gone, they are simply slinking in the wallows of our doubts, waiting for the time we can truly believe that they're in fact there.

I will again reiterate that I'm not saying we aren't currently having our glory days, because to me, every time I log into the forums or the servers it's a glory day. This community means a lot to me and always will, even if someday, for some reason, it dies. The games I've played here, the threads I've made here, the replies I've posted here, everything means so much to me, that I could never possibly forget it. I'm starting to sound cheesy, and fake, but I honestly have to say, whether you believe me or not, this is what I think.

In the end, I think we can get back on that 'High'. Sure, we'll definitely need to work towards it, but it is possible.
I'll be your dealer. Lets get back on that 'high'.

I may be alone here, but I've been playing A LONG time. And while I dislike some of the community now, and hackers are much more abundant, I actually sort of enjoy the more heated competition.
