With the 1.7 sprint key, your sprint DOES break if you run into a block, or hit another player, unless you're holding the sprint key down (which will be pretty hard and confusing to get used to)

Confusing to get used to after double tapping for so long? Yeah. But it won't take long. I played a couple games last night and holding down the key wasn't all too confusing for me. Probably more confusing was the shaders I was messing around with in "super secret settings" to see how much I could challenge myself, lol.

Honestly, it's not all too difficult to just hold down my shift key when I'm fighting. Binding sprint to shift was much easier than ctrl, and makes more sense anyway...I mean, what's stopping people from just binding it to w? >.> Sure, you can't walk...but even in MCSG these days there are few instances where I want to just walk. :p

You can't bind the sprint key to w :p

But my post was focused towards having BSM as a legal mod as it doesn't provide an unfair advantage anymore, yet Mac users get an advantage even without BSM.

Exactly, I asked if BSM was allowed on TS today, the mods said no. I ask why. Their response: Because we can tell the difference between vanilla mc and BSM. How, may I ask?

I would have to agree, I don't believe that BSM is an advantage anymore. However, though I'm almost sure this sprint is better than BSM, it never hurts to try them both in depth first, especially if the creator of BSM has made any changes to it to keep it "superior".
Unbanning those banned for it though? I wouldn't go quite there. Instead, I think it'd be fair to give those banned permanently for it another chance if they make a really well made ban dispute, since we all know there was a fair amount of drama around false bans because of it...If someone was falsely banned for something that's not even a problem anymore, I don't think it's a big deal to let them back in if they really show they care. (This is all assuming BSM would become "allowed", or at least "tolerated."

As for macs having an advantage: Again, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not like it's excessively difficult to hold down the button, nor is it impossible to have it essentially hold itself on a windows or anything. Many things are possible if you know how. (And I'm not talking about mods/hacks to Minecraft itself.)

Edit in response to this:

I personally can't say I understand the reasoning for this if BSM is pretty much inferior now. I won't question it too much until I see the specific reasoning, though...but still, unless BSM made a major modification to enhance it's abilities or whatever, the old BSM I knew, if an advantage in any way, is so minor I can't see all the drama from bans being worth continuing to go through just to stop someone being able to avoid holding a button instead of just pressing it, which in that particular example, as we've gone over, legal "third party software" unrelated to modifying the game itself can already utilize this with default Minecraft sprint, which looks no different.

Another thing that this update did is that it gave people with longer fingers an advantage. Myself, having medium hands, I can't play whilst using TAB, f5, the stupid sprint key, space and the WASDE with one hand, that is not including the occasional need to sneak. What was the point of adding this key? To make the whole world of Minecraft a place for hackers and bees (if you don't get the reference, go to pre-school).

Longer fingers FTW!

Anyway, back on topic.
Every update my have some bad things, but overall, every update brings so much good features, its nice they update regularly. With each update, it opens up a door for the modding community, and server plugin creation.
Everyone likes stuff from the past, but the problem is, is that you have to move forward, you can't "lag" behind.

And with the clicking, that may be because of the anti cheat plugin derping around. And hey, if you don't want to press key to sprint, you can still use double tap W.
The point of adding the key was to stop the sprint bug that has happened 1.6 below. True, it might not have been the best way, but its one of the ways to fix it, and who knows, maybe they'll get rid of it.

BSM sprint is not the same as in 1.7.2, so BSM users still have an advantage over us legit players.

How do Mac users have an advantage?
They can bind their Sprint Key to the Caps Lock button, and it'll be just like BSM. Literally. (Not sure how that works, ask a Mac user :p)

Wrong... Hold down the sprint key, and then. It is superior to 1.7
