Hey Everyone!

Today i decided i wouldn't post a useless thread and actually talk about something meaningful, maps. Lets begin!

For those of you that aren't aware, MCSG has a Map Committee, which decides on what maps get into MCSG. (I'm sure they also discuss map bugs, and stuff as well, but i don't know. I'm not apart of the map committee.) I would imagine that the Map Committee scours Planet Minecraft and the maps submitted to MCSG when selecting new maps to be added. But why?

Why is there a Map Committee? Why dont the players have the final say in what maps get added to the servers? After all, they are the ones who play them! For the past couple of months, i've seen maaaaany people complain about MCSG's decisions regarding maps. Here are a few examples:

Removing Hungry Hills (Even though this was Re - Added)
Removing Freeze Island / Demons Breeze ( A majority of the community wants these 2 maps back)
Adding Fallen Colossi (Even though it won the PMC contest, it's EXTREMELY underplayed and not exactly a fan favorite)

I would also like to mention the Finished Maps section. There have been so many amazing maps that have been submitted and finished, and recieved so much praise from the community, but they seem to be overlooked by the Map Committee. A few maps come to mind when i say this, but i'll avoid listing them.

These are just the ones that i can recall at the moment. (I might edit this post later) But i guess the question im trying to get at here is this:

Instead of having a Map Comittee who (on occasion does what the community wants) decide on what maps get into MCSG, rather than having the community itself, the people who actually play the game, the ones who are able to actually dissect the map for all that its worth, pick the maps?

I would really appreciate feedback on this topic, from the community and hopefully from the Map Committee.

I believe the map committee was a step in the right direction, though in a way, could have been executed better, I believe that the map committee should make a short list of 5 or so maps and then the community votes for two to go on.

However. Would this deciding be done in game or on the forums?
Well, i'd have to say ingame, even though i'd prefer it be done on the forums. There are more players ingame than on the forums.

I also felt that having two Red Forest members in the Map Comittee would be a bit unfair to the other map makers, considering that the Red Forest members themselves can easily add their own map to MCSG.

It's because the in-game community is a lot different than the forum community. If the forum community got everything we wanted, all the players in-game would complain because of the lag caused by Demon's, or the annoyance of running around on ice in freeze. The in-game community wants to play big maps that look cool, but the forum community, clans, and pros want to play maps that can easily be won.

You should see the number of TE people in it then.

If that is true, then why do small maps like solar frost and SG4 always beat out big maps in voting? The in-game community is larger than the form community.

Also, Theoretical. I'd really like to hear what you have to say, i know we've talked about MCSG's decisions when it comes to maps before.
