Fanboys and fangirls.
Odds are, if you've been playing MCSG for more than 5 minutes you know what they are. They're, for the most part, players who adore other users (typically youtubers) and are extremely dedicated to the users in which they're inspired by. They can do things such as play the game because they saw them play it, buy minecraft because they saw them play minecraft, constantly try and talk to them, or any other things along the line.
Now, let's be fair: fanboys and fangirls are, for a large percent of MCSG, hated. They're not liked. Now, before we get off on the wrong track, this thread is not to attempt to go across the line of "they're real people, they have feelings." If you don't like fanboys or fangirls, that's fine. You don't have to like them. I personally have never been too fond of them. Just don't go insulting them, since they didn't really do anything wrong. But hey, if you don't like them, that's not a big deal. I'll repeat: just don't publicly be rude. It makes you look like a scumbag. Nobody likes a scumbag.
Now, within the roams of fanboys and fangirls, it might surprise some to say that there are more fangirls on MCSG than there are, most likely, fanboys. Fanboys such as the average bacca used to be extremely common, but those themselves have become a bit of an endangered species to MCSG. Fangirls however are quite spontaneously appearing on MCSG, they're spreading like wild fire. You know who they come from, Joey. Now, we're not going to poke pins at Joey and trash talk him (as much as some of you might want to).
To be fair, Joey works a truck load with youtube, and he has over 1 million subscribers on his main channel. That is one hell of a feat. That being said, his gaming channel might not have deserved the subs, as a good 100,000 crossed over right away.
Now, within Joey's gaming channel, he mostly plays MCSG, or as he likes to call it "Hunger Craft". I personally never found the videos entertaining, but I only really enjoy watching videos by more experienced MCSG'ers who are extremely familiar with the game, such as Blamph. Joey is not my type of thing because I'm always banging my head on my desk by how he plays the game, and then I get headaches. I don't enjoy getting headaches from videos.
Now, why the hell am I bringing this all up? Well, for a few reasons. The first reason being is I have a question. I've worked long and hard (heh heh...) to try and figure it out, and I simply can't. If someone can answer my question, I would absolutely love it.
My question is: Why do fangirls come to MCSG just because they saw Joey play it? I mean, prior to him they never knew what Minecraft was. I knew one girl in real life who said minecraft was stupid about a year ago, then she saw Joey and she bought an account. Now, I know some of them will buy it because they think it looks fun, but others simply want to try and meet him. What's the purpose of buying a video game just to try and meet someone in a virtual world? I would get trying to meet him in real life, but in a video game? I just don't get it. What's the appeal? Do you win something? It all seems like a waste of time if the only reason you're playing this game is to meet Joey.
At least when it came to Bajan, his fanbase was all made up of Minecraft players. They all played Minecraft, so they figured "Hey! That server seems cool! Let's try it out". They weren't going out to try and meet Bajan (Maybe some were, but it didn't quite seem like it). They were just trying out the server.
Now, the second thing I want to bring up is this: The scores
I know I sound rude when I bring this up, but the scores are just so, well, awful. As rude as it might sound, the scores that some of the Joey Fans or Baccas will have are horrific.
Here are some examples:
Not pretty scores, eh? (Before you go detective on me, I've won 450/1150 games)
Now here's my thing. No one likes to lose, it's human. We hate losing. But these people lose non stop. Look at that first one! The person lost 313 games, they lost every single game they've played. That's insane. My question is, if you can't even manage to obtain a chest (the last person did, she did fairly well that round, she obviously has some understanding) and you have no idea what is going on at any point during the game, how is this enjoyable? I'm not saying they have to leave, but if you don't even know what's going on and all you do is just join a game, die, leave, join a game, die leave, join a game, die, leave: wouldn't that be boring as all hell?
I don't know, maybe I'm just being immature here. I tried to keep this all fairly tidy and as polite as possible, but it just confuses me how you can lose a game that many times and still enjoy it. What's your take on the two questions?
