Well, you also have to keep in mind the people that are banned for "hacks" but don't really hack
Yes, we know the MCSG staff tries their best to separate real hackers from innocent players - But there are and always will be mistakes.
Lag, biases, and a huge number of other things can result in unfair bans - Likewise, biases and lag can also result in a hacker not being banned.

Also, what kind of hacks? Sprint hacks aren't as severe as forcefield, which isn't as severe as.. well, Ok maybe it's around equal to something like fly/waterwalking hacks.
I, personally, think that it's a good idea to have a system where the degree of the evidence counts - For example, if someone is seen having sprint particles while standing still (With evidence showing that they're not simply lagging) then that would be a tempban for X amount of days, while a somewhat uncertain video of a supposed sprint-hacker, with the evidence being kinda unsure, would be a tempban for Y days. Do you get what I mean?
Also, for various types of hacks. People can accuse a lagging person of forcefield (or a lagging person can accuse a non-lagging person.) but really they're innocent - Fly hacks, on the other hand, well...how the heck is that caused by lag? For example, minor sprint hacks (such as BSM, especially in the upcoming 1.7.2 update) are not that severe - While they are a game-ruining experience, they can still be defeated, while flyhacks or forcefield is like an instant win.

Ik this is a bit rant-ish, but... moo. :s
I see what you did there, X and Y, like Pokemon X and Y. I get you man.

What...
Do you even Algebra O__________o

No, I didn't mean it in a reference to Pokemon X and Y, although I was once an avid Pokemon Card player. In this case, X and Y were used as random letters, or variables if I recall my lessons from grade 7 Algebra correctly :p
X is one of the more common variables, along with N, M, Y, and Z. (Although they're usually lower-case, but oh well.)

So is "b", though I dont think "n" is as common.

Oops, forgot that one :p I haven't done it in ages

But alas, we get off topic... back on topic!

My $0.02.... The anti-hacking plugin is not working as much as it should - It would definitely stop hacks a lot more if it was more strict, but.. then players who are really good, legit, would have the system constantly trying to stop them - I don't mean to sound arrogant or anything, but back when NCP was more strict, I was affected more than a lot of people I know. Why? Because my sprinting habits are so closely related to BSM or some other sprint hack that the system thought I was sprint-hacking (even people think that too :p)
Also, turning around and hitting will be a lot worse than it is now - Currently, if someone sneaks up to me mid-game and tries to catch me by surprise, I'm able to turn around and defeat them. However, if NCP got more strict, the system would think I was still facing a different direction, and would stop my sword mid-swing for a few moments.

They can of course appeal their ban, and review the video evidence more in-depth to a Sr. Mod. The evidence is either very clear, or unclear. There won't be any "clear enough". I personally think a 14-day first offense, 2nd attempt perma-ban makes a strong statement towards hackers.

Agreed, I will ask this Saturday at the mod meeting if they would consider increase the amount of time for first offenders.

BSM- Minor offence, 1 week ban.
Sprint/speed Hacks - Double minor offence, 2 week ban
Water Walks - Major, 3 week ban
Forcefeild/ Aimbot - Double Major, 4 week ban
Instakill/Regen Hacks - Permaban (these are much harder to find - much harder to install)

Seriously, a first attempt perma-ban would mean that SO many people would be unfairly perma-banned right now, including me. If mods were at least 75% correct in banning hackers, that would have been an option, but they aren't. Even though SrStaff pretend that there are no unfair bans ever, what they told me, look at bans like @ExKing who was perma banned and then unbanned a few months later with many mods knowing full well that he didn't hack. So first offence permanent bans would ruin the game for many more than 3-year old hackers.
