Typically it goes like this for me:
I run into someone
They run away
Eventually they turn around and, for some reason, waste a lot of arrows.
Afterwards, they come in for a melee clash. If a kill isn't gotten in enough time, they will start running away again.
Repeat process.
about 80% of the time i'll attack them.
If it's in a position where we're in different ledges or we're just staring at each other and if one were to attack the other it'd give the other the advantage I'll usually talk to them and just have a bit of fun talking to them. I usually crack jokes and my favorite line is "Nice weather we're having here" sometimes i'll say "Dude, nice socks" it's fun.
I usually fight them unless i'm under-geared and it's a decked out triple team... Although i would attempt to take a double team even if i was undergeared.
I always fight. I'll have a leather hat and they're full iron with an iron sword and I'll just go in for the kill xD I severely lack good judgement on MCSG
Before, I would always try to team with a player who had approximately the same gear/weapon as me. For some reason, after my leave from the MCSG, I realized that I always fight the guy, and rarely ever team. If they do have much better gear than me, then I'll run, and not even try to team.
If were in a stalemate position I'll strike up a conversation. Occasionally I'll say Behind you! in chat. It's always awkward when I'm in a stalemate, typing an ice breaker when they say it first. I run away if that happens.
If distracted I usually attack them quickly. Resulting in them normally dying, running or dying fighting.
If we both see each other I make some weird moves and try to gauge how good they are. If its a team I will usually run away for a little while and wait for a moment in which its beneficial to attack.
