Although I don't have many wins I do have some good strategies that could help

-know where traps are. So incase you are being chased you can try to make your opponents fall for the trap.
-stay away from corn. You can go of you are sure you are the best equipped and know that there are no teams that are pretty well set. Otherwise just note where tier 2 chests are and make a path off of those at night. It's like getting corn but takes longer to get chests.
-make some friends. If I'm not too great and I know I'm not as powerful as another guy and I run along a noob with nothing. I sometimes give them a few supplies so that they could deal some damage to the most powerful guy.

(I'm not very experienced so I don't deserve to post but,)
If you see people fighting, don't run in with nothing. Wait til one person gets killed, and then run in and kill the winner while he's sorting through the stuff. (I get killed like this all the time. I should really stop.) If you kill someone, make sure no one is around before going through your inventory. Most likely there's a person hiding in the shadows.
TLDR; You don't need to find a ton of chests, just a weapon so you can kill someone else who HAS found chests.

To get a spot on the server, I just post the same server as the top 3 servers on my multiplayer screen. (Ex: us14, us14, us14, all at the top. They'll load the fastest this way.) If two servers run into communication error after the server restarts, you can just click the third and still get a relatively early spot. If all three get communication error, just go to texture packs, click done (without clicking a texture), and go back to multiplayer.

Hello! I'm not the most experienced player, but I find I'm somewhat adequate. I'll just give a small answer to some of your questions with my personal opinion.

As for your first question, a route is the basic way to go. If you do not know what a route is, it is a place you run to collecting chests. By the end of the route, you should be heading back to the main Cornucopia, as it has many tier two chests. Those are chests that give you better stuff then regular chests (diamonds, iron armor, etc...). A good route has many regular and many tier two chests. To answer your question --it would be very hard to win, but it's certainly possible. Back in my "noob" days, I won my first game by having two people with Iron Armor fight eachother and me coming up behind them and ambushing, resulting in me being able to get Iron Armor and a Diamond Sword.

For the second question, you can go to the servers page to see what servers are in Deathmatch (close to ending) or restarting (about to be up). Another way to ensure that you get in servers is to Donate. This gives you priority over all other non-donors. You kick them so you can play. Don't abuse the power, however, or you'll be banned. (the most common example of abuse is leaving and coming back on to kick more people, however this is somewhat deterred by the donor cooldown)

I'm not sure what you mean by the third question, but Map One is a map with castle-ish buildings and forests. There are seas beyond the forests and a pirate ship (jarrrrrr). Map Two is a city map, and my personal favorite map. Map Three is a jungle map. Map four is a map with an island and a lot of water. Map 5 is another jungle map, however I've only played that map once so I'm not the person to ask for that one.
You can vote for a map on the server by typing /v (map number), so an example would be /v 2.

I only got 21 wins, but ehh, I think I can help.
Tironas nailed your first questions, but I have some tips.

Never fist fight, doing this will screw up your entire game. You'll have less time to search for chests, lower hunger and health.

Eat whenever possible. You need atleast 9 hunger bars full to regenerate health, so if your below this, eat a low filling food (Raw meat, apples, e.t.c) If your very low, eat high filling foods (Cooked meats mainly, or alot of low filling foods).

Get the low ground. Hitting from below, you can hit from farther away.
