Hi,

I wanted to ask this question and give some background info. I'm a sysadmin for a library district in Colorado. We have a Minecraft server, Minecraft accounts for public use, and do a lot of programs around Minecraft.

For the release of the new Hunger Games movie, we're doing a Minecraft Hunger Games event. We're expecting 50+ kids to attend.

I've spent the last few weeks researching and attempting to implement one of the many Survival Games/Hunger Games mods in preparation for this event. So far, I've come up short. I want it to be as automated as possible, with map regeneration and ease of use. After some time, I realized that I wanted what MCSG has.

Now, it seems that MCSG keeps their custom mod under wraps, so I'm not asking for it. What I'm wondering is if it would be possible to get 1-2 servers to be passworded for a few hours. I'd feel bad joining some less-populated MCSG servers, and it would take the local competitive edge out of it if there were others in the server.

I have a few more weeks to figure something out, but I'm not confident I can get a bukkit mod working well enough for the event. Suggestions are very welcome.

Hm... I do not think this is possible. One way you can try and get a server to yourself is go onto the US network and find an empty server in the late 150-200's and join that. once its full it is hard for others to join, other then donors. I dont know though, but I'm pretty sure you cant do this.

Unfortuanately, I doubt the administrative staff would be willing to do this for you, too much time and hassle. I feel bad that for you though :(.

I figured I'd ask before doing something like that, I don't want to just pile on a server or two unexpectedly.

You can basically rent a server. Play on US199 and US200. The chance of that server even remotely having somebody in it is like rolling two dice and getting 13.
You're probably right. I underestimated the number of US servers.

Yeah, US has a ton of servers, which is funny cause a couple months ago people would rage at the lack of servers there were in the US.

Any server between 175 and 200 in the US will generally have no people in it, but you'll probably see a few oddball games that are currently in session, but don't fret, at least 10 will be empty, and that's if you're hosting it around 7 or 8.

Also, a library that revolves around Minecraft, seems pretty neat. Good luck getting everything set up.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do would be to get in touch with Chad and talking to him.

I dunno about 199 and 200. Although nobody ever goes on them, if players see people on them, they might go into it. As previously stated, I recommend contacting the owner, Chad.
