After complaints about poorly designed maps, we were assured the PMC contest would bring us beautifully crafted maps. Now, here's the problem:

1. Contestants had around a month to build these things, amazing maps could take 2-3 months. 1 month isn't enough.
2. The results were rigged by more popular builders who instantly get diamonds. Others had to advertise like crazy just to get noticed.
3. Shaders!! This ruins the competition, of course the winner has blender in the pic! You can't even play it like that! And for the shaders, the winner always has shader pics too! It always does!

So, we're promised beautiful maps, what do we get? This junk: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/the-fallen-colossi-games-survival-games-entry-2178608/
Download it and look around, it's horrendous.
MCSG, this is not the solution to our map problems. Assuring everyone that the winners will get their maps on was a bad idea, because now you have to put this garbage on the servers.

This is just my opinion, however. I mean no offense to MCSG, but at this point with our maps: this was the wrong move.

This is so true. Shaders makes everything look better, even a map. Not everyone has shaders or a texture pack to make the map look good. I think that map makers should not be allowed to use texture packs or shaders, just plain old default.

I agree with this. I played a few games on colossi, it honestly didn't look good. Destiny's Shiver has a ton of randomly placed 1x1 lava holes, the terraforming is decent but game-play isn't ideal. I think some maps like Rapturous Drift and Orion SG would have been better, they played much smoother.

Very true about the shaders! Team vareide don't use shaders for their maps. Like sg2, it still looks amazing

I feel that the judges missed out on one criteria whilst judging the maps. The PVP gameplay.
That wasn't something they were to rate the maps by, though.
Why not? That's a bit strange. This is "Minecraft Survial Games map building contest", and a large part of the minecraft survival games is PVP... Right?

The maps were not even judged on gameplay, yet, they're going into our servers :c. Upon downloading the top 3 maps, they're nothing like what the shaders and "blender" portrays them as.

I'm most certainly not excited for future gameplay on any of these maps. Sure, they look nice, were presented in a good way, and got a lot of diamonds, but the gameplay... It's just lacking.

You may as well have called the competition: "Build us a pretty map and write a cool story to go with it".

The runner-up was essentially just a castle, with what I can see as virtually no outstanding PVP or Gameplay aspects, yet it hit number two... It was a fantastic build, but a lot of these maps are severely lacking gameplay wise.

Don't get me wrong-- the high ranked maps in the finals are absolutely beautiful, and I think in that category the judges did great, but, a lot of these maps are severely lacking in PVP.

Minecraft Survival Games = PVP

Build contest = Amazingly well built maps

Minecraft Survival Games + Build contest = Amazingly well built maps, with fantastic PVP aspects

Minecraft Survival Games Build Contest winners = Amazingly well built maps with lacking PVP aspects

The numbers aren't quite adding up here-- I think you missed a step in the equation.
