That's not true D:

In castellano (spanish spoken in spain) 'c' followed by 'e' or 'i' is pronounced 'th', and 'v' is pronounced 'b'. So it's pronounced 'ah-bah-ree-thee-ah', like Fox said. That said, you might come across a bit pretentious saying it like that, so I think it's acceptable just to say 'ah-vah-ree-see-yah' in normal conversation.
I might start saying it that way to confuse people. I would have a long time ago if I conserved the pronunciation in Spain.

Its not a name, its a verb.

Avaricia means this in spanish: La avaricia es el afán o deseo desordenado y excesivo de poseer riquezas para atesorarlas. La codicia, por su parte, es el afán excesivo de riquezas, sin necesidad de querer atesorarlas.

Translated to English Avaricia basically means, avarice or greed.
¿De donde es que eres?

Porque yo, siendo puertorriqueño, nunca he escuchado a la palabra "Avaracia".

I think its one of 2:
ah-var-ee-see-a
or
ah-var-ee-chee-a

not sure why, but ive always felt avaricia had a sort of italiaan feel to it, and ah-var-ee-chee-a incorporates the Italian pronunciation.
