Hey everybody, Zeno here with a suggestion for future editions of the Hell Games: Remove the gamemakers.

I understand the argument of 'spicing things up', but the competition has really reached a point where the gamemakers decide the outcome of the game more so than the actual skill and tactics of the people playing.

In a previous Hell Game (HG 3 or 4 I believe), there was a stacked team composed of VebbiHD and Soggypickle. They had looted corn, and had a very good chance at winning. However, they had to content with hordes of zombies, lava, and fire being spammed all around them, which eventually killed Soggy and brought Vebbi down to very low hearts. They did not lose because they were outplayed, because they fought badly, or anything along those lines. They lost because the Gamemakers decided to kill them.

In this edition of the Hell Games, something similar happened to me and my teammate Zorrodc. We were walking around, starving, with 5 hearts each and unable to sprint, when the message played that corn had refilled. We walked there as quickly as possible to see a stacked team of two looting all the chests. I managed to snipe them and scare them away, even though they could have easily taken us both out if they had decided to stay. We then proceeded to loot corn, finding full chain, enough food to bring us back to sprinting level, and a golden apple for each of us. I was even able to craft myself an iron sword!

At this point, we were ecstatic. Somehow, we had managed to get full chain and iron/sword stones from a position just a few moments earlier where we had a mixture of chain and leather, gold swords, and 5 hearts, without the ability to sprint. We felt like we had pulled off something miraculous, and had a great chance at winning.

However, that was not to be the case, because we attracted the attention of the Gamemakers. Upon looting corn, we were met by zombies at every turn, bats that flew around us and gave us nausea, TnT, potions of blindness and slowness that made it impossible to sprint, everything that the Gamemakers could possibly throw at us. We ran up a mountain to try to get the lay of the land, and then disaster struck. Three zombies were spawned directly on us, dealing a heart of damage each. I tried to turn to run, not wanting to engage them, but another one was spawned next to me and I was knocked off the mountain to fall to my death, while my teammate was brought to three hearts.

And thus, in the course of this Hell Games, we went from a team who would be easy pickings for pretty much anyone else to, miraculously, being stacked. We had an very solid chance at winning the Hell Games, which would have been an incredible achievement, but that was not to be, because we ran afoul of the Gamemaker's whims.

I would be less opposed to the ideas of the Gamemakers if they hindered all players equally, but that was very, very much not the case. Whereas we were chased the entire game after the point where we got good gear, from talking with people who had been watching the stream (after my death), the Gamemaker's had not harmed Theo or ThappleTree at all, when they had nearly as much gear as we did.

I think everyone can agree that watching an epic final battle between two stacked teams would be more interesting than watching one team get slaughtered by the Gamemakers while the other one is allowed to roam free. And I can certainly tell you, it is FAR more fun to play when you aren't being constantly chased by people you have no power to defend yourself against. Theo and Thapple were basically handed that win on a silver platter by the Gamemakers, when there should have been an incredibly tense, tight match to determine the winner.

Now that I've shared this tale, I'll finally return to my initial suggestion: remove the Gamemakers. I have received a promise that the Gamemaker's powers will be nerfed, but I feel that isn't enough, and they should be removed altogether.

If you look at the course of the Hell Games, the Gamemakers have practically determined the winner in all of them. Yes, individual skill, tactics, and planning do play a role, but they are constantly being countered by the Gamemaker's decisions of who to sponsor and who to kill. The Hell Games should be a contest between the players fighting in it, not between them and the Gamemakers. It makes the games annoying to play and painful to watch.

Again, I understand the argument that they're needed to spice things up, but I feel that they sway the course of the game far, far too much, and will continue to do so even if their powers are nerfed. I think that, for the full enjoyment of everyone, they should be removed.

Please share your thoughts on the subject, people. But do try to read the full thread before you do so.

Thanks,

-Zeno

The gamemakers actually did target Thapple and I, at least a good 4 times. I have a recording of it, bout to upload it.

Still Zeno, well written. Love the thread.

And yes, I do think they should remove the Game-Maker aspect.

I don't think game makers should have the power to kill tributes, it just defeats the point of the game.

I don't think the game makers should be removed. I think the game makers are an important part of the game, and should stay because that's one of the aspects that separates it from normal SG.

I definitely agree that the gamemakers recently haven't been very good. This time sponsoring wasn't functional, which completely screwed people over if they couldn't get to refill but deserved the chance, like Denni and I.

I think the game simply needs to be prepared before hand, and everyone needs to be sure that they know what they're doing. In Hell Games 3 when Gibbo was streaming, I should've won but because Gibbo was the major voice there, and she didn't understand the game completely, my opponents were not called out for teaming when they had been warned several times not to and therefore ended up losing.

Hell Games is more like the Hunger Games than SG. It should be up to the Gamemakers how things go down, though not to actually kill the people. Having bats and zombies spawned will not force people to go in a specific direction, it will annoy tributes and give them something to do for a moment.

Because it would be difficult and maybe even impossible to 'guide' people in a certain direction, there should be nothing made by the game makers that causes damage to the tributes. That just ruins the PvP factor of it.

Game makers could be a great aspect of the game if sponsoring worked and everyone knew when the right time to sponsor was. Currently, it seems like most of the game makers are just there because they got into the crew somehow and really aren't helping the Hell Games that much. Not to be mean, but essentially they're sitting in Chad's office and spectating the game.

So rather than removing game makers, just make them do their job better. It would be hard, but it would improve the game a lot.

This. If pulled off correctly, it would be far better than removing them altogether. However, if it isn't done well, then they should be removed.

There could still be gamemakers, but what they did to you and your teammate went extremely overboard. They could spawn a zombie or two, place a pit of lava here and there, but that's it.

I think lava shouldn't happen. It can't be removed, because there are spawnpoints constantly being created in it and because you can't place blocks, so it's really OP.
