Hey there everyone. Before I start, I feel I should apologize for a few things. First, if you saw part one I said that I would try to get a quote from static_nightmare, the maker of Breeze, but honestly, I could not think of what to say that would fit into this discussion. Also, I realize that I never actually posted my Changes I would Like for MCSG post on Monday as I always do. If I had to describe the absence in one word, it would be this:
So anyway, In the last part, I looked at the design of Breeze, and came to the conclusion that the map design was alright. Of course, this is not the (main) cause of Breeze's controversy. The real reason is so big, that nearly everyone hates it. I normally try to sound mature and dual-sided, but when people play Breeze,
They play it all the f**king time.
Breeze Island has to be the most played map on the servers by far, and it has been so overplayed, that static himself has stated multiple times that he wants to get rid of voting, and most of this comes from the overplayed-ness(?) of Breeze.
So why is Breeze overplayed? Well, for starters, the map is small and compact. This means that games can be quick, fast, and, depending on your taste, fun. Whether you're a hardcore PvPer or a hardcore survivalist will determine your opinion on this map.
Another thing people like about Breeze is how easy it is to memorize. As much as I hate them, if you want to use a chest route, then this is the map to do it. It's quick, it's (probably) effective, and hey, at least you'll climb up some stuff.
So these are the reasons why Breeze is overplayed. Like I said in the first part, I don't hate Breeze. I don't even dislike Breeze. What I hate is repetition. I like playing other maps. I like to survive, and survival is best when its as unpredictable as possible. Am I happy to play Breeze? Absolutely, But what I am not happy about is when It is played at least 1/3rd of the time.
Now, to the servers credit, they have changed voting so that maps can only be played again after two other maps have been played. But while it has made a genuine improvement, I still end up playing Breeze the most. When you nerfed Breeze, you nerfed all the other maps as well, and Breeze is now the most played nerfed map.
The reason I take this on so strongly is that I don't want someone's first game to be on Breeze. If someone has just joined the servers and ends up in breeze, they will think MCSG is all about quick games, PvP, and that's it. If you first join and play SG1, you learn about traps, exploration, discovery, length, and PvP. Then you can go to Breeze and learn a variation. If you were to play Breeze first, you would think that it's the standard, and hate the other maps for "Being too big", and "where's the chests?".
Look, I don't want Breeze to be removed. I just want to say to anyone who reads this that there are other maps out there. If you see someone who plays Breeze non-stop, chat to them and try to break them out of repetition. I want Breeze to be a "Hey, Breeze is being played. Allright!" map instead of a "Ugh, Breeze again?!" map. It just takes a little effort to give Breeze a break.
That's it for today. If you like this post, check out some of my other posts, like, leave a comment, and I'll see you on Saturday for Maps in Review: The Survival Games 2: by Team Vareide.
