Hey,
I thought this thread would be cool, so we could suggest/discuss how and what the 'Combat Update' will be like. Reply on your thoughts! 1.9 ruined or better?

One of the biggest things that makes Minecraft awesome is options. And PvP has suffered from lack of options since Multiplayer came out.

Now here's what 1.9 needs to do to PvP: add more OPTIONS instead of focusing on items or new mechanics old players won't get enjoyment out of.

I propose 4 new gamerules to do:
A) change how fast attacks charge (0 to disable),
B) change how much knockback can move an entity (0 for anti-knockback, negatives for reversed KB),
C) change delay before a player can be hit again (so the fastest clicker won't always win, but it can still be promoted if favored), and
D) change sword range.

These options would make a PvP experience that almost anyone can enjoy: go from strong, knockback-based battles to fast, reflex-based combat. This would add a nice variety to satisfy old players while leaving room for many servers to offer a different experience than the norm.

As a person who loves 1.7, knows people who prefer 1.6 or 1.8, and wouldn't like to see PvP radically changed, I hope these options would allow a great time for anyone.

That's what I wrote on r/Minecraft :)

Shields will change MCGamer forever.
There will be new items in chests, new dynamics and strategies with combat, and will hopefully even out the playing field for a while whilst everyone adjusts to the new system.

Can't wait

It looks pretty horrible. I know some people have been saying "People have complained about every update, it'll be fine!" and I really hope they're right, but this one just seems a lot more drastic than past updates. I just hope MCSG stays on the current version as long as possible.
