Why "Cornucopia"?

Why does everybody call spawn / the spawn circle a Cornucopia or Corn for short?

I had never heard the word previous to playing SG and once i did i obviously had to look it up.
I found it interesting why everybody is calling spawn Corn when no definition of a Cornucopia mentions a circle or spawn in any way.

The Wiki Definition of a Cornucopia is "...a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers, nuts, other edibles, or wealth in some form."

"In modern depictions, the cornucopia is typically a hollow, horn-shaped wicker basket filled with various kinds of festive fruit and vegetables."

I've never seen a horn shape at spawn of any SG map. Sure i can see a connection in that there's a bunch of chests in the middle of spawn containing "wealth in some form", but it's certainly not a horn shape, and it's not exactly overflowing since not everybody can get something, lol.

I guess my question really is why. Did it need another name? Spawn is short and concise and even noobs know what spawn is.

The mcsg is based off of the hunger games books and movies. In the hunger games series the middle is called the corn probably because its where all the goodies are.

Yeah i know the gamemode is based on the movie/book and i actually haven't seen/read that yet but i guess it makes sence to use names from it aswell.

Like i said i can see the connection with the goodies / wealth thing.
It just kind of annoys me when people saying spawn gets called noob or someone "corrects" people in chat when they say spawn.

Well, saying spawn instead of corn is like saying space ship instead of Death Star. Just call it the right thing

In the Books/Movie the middle Area is around a Cornucopia, it is basically a horn filled with goodies. Just like your picture, but bigger and filled with weapons and stuff.

yeah, it's a shame they didnt actually make it a horn shape in SG1 but it would have been annoying for people facing away from the horn's entrance

Instead of making it a circle shape I guess they should of made it more of a C shape.

But because of Minecraft's dumb square logic, it would be impossible to make things equadistant with a C shape.

Wasn't allowed because two players on each end won't has buddies on either side to punch them.

Thats one of the stupidest excuses for not including that I ever heard.

Very Rarely ever does people punch you right off as soon as the countdown reaches zero, It just never happens.

They could still make the horn idea work, though.

Okay, let's say you get a horn. You fill the inside of the horn with goodies, and then you have the side that's facing away from the horn. Take some chests and put it on the side facing away, so both sides can get their precious loot without being treated unfairly. It's so simple...

Also, in the movie not ALL of the loot was located inside of the cornucopia, as a matter of fact, most of it was hanging outside the corn just sitting there. So, you could also spread some chests outside as well.
