In the new 1.6, if I start sprinting there's usually up to a second of delay until I actually start sprinting.

I've also encountered a couple of server crashes, but the weird thing is, when this happened, I couldn't stop sprinting. Basically, if I moved forward, I was sprinting by default. If I walked backwards, I would walk normally, but if I walked forward again I'd be sprinting.

Based on these two observations, I'm guessing there is some sort of serverside check on sprinting now? Dunno if that's a MCSG thing or a Minecraft thing but it's a bit weird :c

It's a serverwide glitch. It's happening with all servers. But not in Singleplayer, so it's pretty much Mojang's problem.

Really? Singleplayer runs on an internal server, they did that to ensure there would be no bugs that were single- or multiplayer specific if I recall correctly.

I know, it's quite confusing, but go ahead and try it. I'm positive that that's the case.

I think that this depends on your ping. That is basically the amount of time it takes for a packet of information to go to the server and back, so that means if you have a ping of 300 ms it will take .3 seconds for your sprint to activate. The reason this bug doesn't happen in singleplayer is because of the fact that your ping to your own computer is 0, meaning sprinting starts instantly. This problem with sprinting is a bug and should be fixed with 1.6.2, which should be coming out soon.

THEORY: The sprint delay is not a bug. Mojang made it server-side (including the internal server in singleplayer), I'm not excactly sure why but one almost certain idea was to allow server's to detect sprint hacks. Already it's impossible now for sprint to lag (previously, sprint-particles under the feet in frozen-lag scenarios weren't taken on action upon), whwat Mojang didn't take into consider (maybe they did, but just shrugged it off as minor) was latency and connection towards the servers.

To be honest the sprint delay isn't that bad, atleast if someone has a decent connection to the server.

This has already been proven wrong, but yolo.
