Wait, is it also bannable if you edit your fov? I guess you can say it's an advantage because they can see more but I'm not sure. I have done games with friends as a joke where we put our fov at 2.0 or something so walking normally was insane, but sprinting your screen went upside down xD

If only increasing gamma was aloud, then we'll be on equal playing field.
We get it, you want it to be legal so you can use it. Stop posting those type of statements

I think you misunderstand my post.
You said"I'll just increase my monitor brightness. Is that against the rules? I mean it does give an unfair advantage over players with dimmer monitors..." If someone with a not so good computer has bad FPS and another user has optifine, there is an FPS difference, game changing, just like having more brightness than someone.

It probably is, knowing that increasing your brightness beyond what basically anyone that has been slamming their head on their keyboard trying to make it brighter can.

Probably not bannable since you can change you're FOV in you're Minecraft setting in game, so even the dumbest people can change it and not need to look into you're Minecraft folder -_-

Well I don't think it should be bannable if you change your fov to something that give you a disadvantage.

I agreed with you, by giving the example that my monitor gives me an unfair advantage, that could be nullified if increasing gamma was aloud.

The way I see it gamma and optifine are the same thing. Optifine is used to help people with laggy computers get better fps, so they can match players with good computers. Increasing gamma helps players with dim monitors be able to actually see, so they can match players with bright monitors.

This may sound crazy or not, but maybe make the limited amount of gamma 5.0?
*EDIT* I say this may sound crazy because if you post a screenshot with increased gamma but the rule is 5.0 gamma is the maximum, it would be difficult to tell if it is more than 5.0 lol judging by a screenshot

Dayum, 32 posts in 33 minutes, not bad x) and nobody even double posted :D

Then why isn't Optifine banned? It gives users who know how to install mods an advantage, over people who don't know how, someone with a crappy computer without optifine and someone with a good computer and optifine = huge advantage, not only that but users with optifine can zoom in and see things more clear than other users without optifine, including nametags, a vanilla user cannot see nametags nearly as far than a user with optifine.
Optifine may give an FPS advantage, however isn't that like saying people with more money to buy a better computer have an unfair advantage as well? We can't really ban people for having an FPS advantage because of all the different factors surrounding it. Editing gamma however does not give an FPS advantage, it gives an extremely unfair visual advantage. They're two completely separate things. :p

Banning Optifine would make a lot of players that rely on it angry. I'm quite sure that people that don't know how to install mods such as optifine (Like myself when I first got it) search it up on Youtube, so that really shouldn't be a problem. FPS advantage as said before isn't preventable as people have different computers and it fluxuates depending on what computer you own/use.

I mentioned how optifine gives a visual advantage as well, don't know if you read the part, I said how you can see nametags from way farther of a distance than a vanilla user, and zoom into things and just "visually" see farther in game.
