Again, majority rules. That's how it works.

Before I steal what like 50 people have said, I didn't read many of the previous comments. I skimmed a few of them.

MCSG is a massive community, like you said. But the forum community is definitely more than 1% of the active community. The active forummers are generally some of the most active players on the servers, and often the most experienced. Because they are more experienced, they have seen MCSG in many different stages of it's glory. They know all the ups and downs of anything that could possibly be added or changed about MCSG.

The in-game community is mostly newer players, and also younger ones. Not that that's a bad thing, but that could change their opinion. Some people might not want something just because their friend doesn't want it and told them to vote that. Other people might not want something because they've never experienced how awesome it was, and how much better the game could be with that.

There are arguments for both sides of the story, and in the end, the in-game community is obviously still important, but most can't be expected to have a full opinion, with a reasonable explanation of why they chose that answer. Obviously not everyone will be like that, and I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but I believe this to be true.

I believe that rather than simply asking everyone in a poll (though this can be done too) I think everyone should have the chance to develop a full fledged opinion on features suggested in the polls. This can be done by having test servers, which would be more work for the developers, but in my opinion also worth it.

I might now going to write a long paragraph in response because I've wrote responses to statements like this already, but I actually think the test server is a GREAT idea and would be happy to see it implemented.

This is the same sort of thinking that spawned the electoral college in America, because the founding fathers couldn't trust the people to make an educated decision. We all know how well that turned out...

You can't accurately make a generalization saying that most ingame members are young and can't make their own decisions, it is the same sort of generalization as saying most Americans are fat and lazy. While perhaps many are, you can't just assume that the community doesn't know what they are really voting for.

If we go ignoring the polls and making the decisions for the community without their consent, many players will start to leave. People above have stated that this doesn't really matter because they aren't spending any money on the servers, but this is a shameful attitude to have towards the community. If we adopt this sort of attitude, we can expect this community to go downhill quickly.

Kinda off topic but you've made some really good points on this thread so I'm gonna follow you. :)

One huge problem is that the forums consist of more mature and players who played back in beta (not everyone).
Knowing that, the players in game are majority 8-12 year olds who dont think before they vote. "hmm exploding podiums sounds funny!" vote yes. "less loot in chest means harder games, isnt it hard enough?" vote no. Majority of those players are the ones who have 3 wins and haven't heard the reasoning behind the poll. Now were going to be stuck with idiotic ideas made my kids who vote randomly

THIS.
The problem nowadays is that people seem to want stuff handed to them on a damn plate.
Run from corn, run 10 blocks, get full iron armour, win game.
Whereas back in the Beta, you actually had to WORK to get decent armour.
Its pathetic how maps like Solar frost and freeze island get accepted, and Hungry Hills and Overgrown Arena are removed!
All because "The games last too long" That phrase shouldn't even exist in a true Survival Games community. The key is SURVIVAL. MCSG may as well be named MCPvPG and remove all the maps, and replace them with a 50 radius flatland, where everyone spawns with full iron armour, a diamond sword, 20 flint and steels, 10 god apples, a bow and 128 arrows, 12 fishing rods. The saddest thing is, that most of the community wouldn't even think about raising an objection to that.
The only thing keeping me here is the forums and the people I know here. Without them, I'd have left by now.

After watching my friend a couple times in beta I knew that getting and iron armor is a huge achievement so when I bought this account later that day, I played sg1 it lasted bout half an hour and I had iron pants and a wood sword and I ended the game with 2 kills ( one was luck other I got the last hit on a guy who drowned). Then in DM I died to a guy. I was happy. Nowadays, I would be looking at myself saying "wtf get a life pixel you suck". Back in beta there was TRUE pvp, it was about who knew the best traps, best sniping spots, who knew the right area for pvp now its just run, run, run, turn around, bow, fns, fishing rod, kill. the boring way of pvp. I wish the old days could come back and I was on my moms crappy computer getting 10fps in a dark blood red room, running around SG1 with leather pants and a wood sword laughing at how I had no food

Survival Games focuses on PvP, HungerGames focuses on PvE, that is why Mobs are not re-added. The HungerGames is like Walls PvP, just without walls, you gather stuff, mine, get food, fight mobs, and fight players. Survival Games is just PvPing other players.

The reason knowing traps and stuff is important is because everyone sucked. It's simple. Now people are much better at fighting and know everything. You can't just ask everyone to be terrible again. That's the only reason PvP was different back then.

And you can't call what you like "true PvP." You can use all the same strategies you used to use, they just don't work for the reasons I said above. PvP has many more dimensions now, and I think that's much better.

"everyone sucked?" no. Its just people didnt expect that you were going to spring a trap on them, but they eventually got smarter and reworked that

Exactly. People didn't know. They weren't good at SG. Now people know the traps so they don't work. You just proved my point...
