This definitely could've been a status- it's not really open for a ton of discussion, it's kind of just a definite yes or no.

As for my opinion, no, it won't, and it's really not been that overplayed anymore with the new system. No map will ever be 'underplayed' unless it's removed since there's a map rotation, and somewhat of a random vote.
I don't like it when people pop into threads and say that the thread is unneeded and there is nothing to discuss. That is the case sometimes, but those threads are usually along the lines of "Top 5 PvPers in your region?" This thread definitely is meaningful, and many people could write multi-paragraph posts here if we got a good enough discussion started. (I already wrote a two paragraph post above.) Also, do status updates typically ask questions expecting an answer? I'm rather new to the forums, but that seems like a poor way to get feedback or opinions on a topic like this.

As for SG 4 being overplayed or not, I agree that it is not really overplayed. No map is really overplayed to the point of getting sick of it anymore because of the voting system and the sheer number of maps. However, SG 4 and Valleyside still practically always get the most votes compared to other maps in the lobby. What we are asking is if there are ever going to be other maps that blow SG 4 out of the water in terms of how much people enjoy them. Could there be another map made that when put in the same lobby, SG 4 gets two votes and this new map gets twelve? I personally think not because of all the memories attached to it, as stated above. It is like a good old chess game because everyone knows it so well, and people are always ready to have a shot at something they have experienced so many times and feel so comfortable with.

I don't like that either, as hypocritical as it seems on the topic of my post :p There were other reasons toward my post, one of which being excessive thread creation on the OP's part, which, of course really isn't my problem XD

I definitely agree the map voting bit. I think that SG 4 will always be popular much more in a sense than it will be over-played, since a map being over-played is technically impossible with the new system. Anything else I had to say on the matter you pretty much covered and did so better, anyway :p

I realize this is slightly off-topic, but I really hope they fix the gravel trap on the map someday.

Also, KRaid said basically all that was in my mind :D

I don't really think it's overplayed as it is. As the new maps have been added, the amount of games on SG4 (that I've noticed) have been decreasing a lot. SG4 is my favorite map, and I have to constantly search lobbies for it it order to be able to play it.
I think as long as new maps are getting added, it won't be played as much.

I am going to bring up a point about the real most popular map of all time: SG2. Before everyone goes: "ewwwww" "terrible" "what are you thinking?" - let me explain.

Way back nearly two years ago SG4 wasn't a thing, but MCSG was. (The time period I am referring to is April 2012-September 2012). There are very few of us players left that were around then.

During this time there were only 5 maps on the server. (Of course it started out as 1 map, then two, etc. - but for the most part it was 5 maps.) Anyway, the voting worked where ./vote 1 was always SG1, vote 2 was SG2, vote 3 was SG3, vote 4 was Breeze Island, and vote 5 was Overgrown Arena (this wonderful map is no loner with us :( ). The voting always worked like that. Breeze Island and Overgrown Arena really come into play later as they hadn't hit their true "hype" yet and were relevant only in September of that April-September phase that I am focusing on. So for the rest of this argument I am going to focus on SG1-3.

Out of those three maps here is a rough estimate of what I remember: SG1- voted 20% of the time, SG2- voted 70% of the time, SG3- voted 10% of the time. (Those numbers aren't exact, but a good estimate based off what I remember.) So, SG2 was the most popular. Since it was the first "most popular" (when I say "most popular" I mean it, SG2 had A LOT of hype) it has its place in history as the most popular map of all time. Even though Breeze Island, Valleyside University, and SG4 are all statistically more popular, they can't dethrone the original most popular map.

What I was trying to show with all of that is, even though SG2, whether you like it or not, is the most popular map of all time (not statistically, but historically- being the origin of the popular maps) it eventually became outdated and even disliked in some cases. Before the small map, fast pvp craze SG2 could stand its ground. But now that pvp is so fast paced and condensed, it is but a memory in the back of all the MCSG veteran's minds.

All in all, if any of this made sense, SG2 is and will always be the first most popular (historically the MOST popular) map of all time. It only became unpopular because the new maps like SG4 brought a new style of pvp that made SG2, for the most part, irrelevant. So to tie this all back into the thread's question: SG4 will only become irrelevant, like SG2, when a new map offers more popular and different game style. In my mind, that is the only way to surpass the most popular in popularity.
