Its a respect thing, if you can hear someone, you will have more respect for them. Like someone said above, is that the only two exceptions to this rule is if you are deaf or mute. As well, microphones help to get to know the person behind the computer. Moderators become close friends, and only text chat leaves friends feeling disconnected. As well (I could be wrong on this) this rule was made because they used to accept people without mics a while ago, and someone ruined it for everyone. its a constant, An individual ruins it for the group...
