You also cant rate skill by w/l because players like me are often getting internet crashs which results in a free lose sometimes it even saves this game twice (2 losses at one game)
Often Ive gotta help my sis ir help my brother - And i dont scream "No mom I cant" I just help and 90% this is my dead.
There is no perfect way of finding out the Skill of someone. Maybe there are better ones and worse ones but there is no perfct one imo.
And this, my friends, is why I can't win any more than 50% of my games, even if I win every single one. >.>
*I time out every, roughly, 5 games. (This isn't my internet. I only time out of the server. I'm always able to immediately join back as well, but everyone else wasn't effected.)
*I have to do staff duties when poked on TS. (Which I'm always on when playing.)
*My internet is the most unstable thing ever, and every hour or so it freaks out on me and nearly disconnects me from everything. (My connection to the internet completely goes out for about a half an hour every day, randomly.)
*I'm always busy with unexpected IRL things. (I'll be playing a game, and randomly, "Hey, can you come help me with this?" Or "Can you do this?" This is partly why I mostly play much later in the day: That's the only time of day that's at all predictable for me.)
*Anytime a server bug occurs that shuts the server down preemptively, or lags the game to an insane extent, etc.
*Testing games on a server where the goal isn't to win, but to test stuff for bugs, etc. (I rarely "win" these games, and they do count on the leaderboards. I've had my fair share of them.)
*The insane amount of lag that I get to CA servers, which I still don't understand why I get it. (This is a big deal because a few people I enjoy playing with have the same problem with the US.)
*Any other reason I can't remember right now.
The sheer amount of games I've lost due to this kind of stuff is insane. Especially as a staff member, with certain duties to attend to, it's simply impossible for me to get a good win/loss or a really impressive point amount. This is not even factoring in the fact that, with how little I've been playing as of recently, I'm extremely out of practice and would need a good warming up before I'd even do well. >.>
But let's be honest here...nearly
everyone has issues like this. Whatever their reasons might be, almost everyone has to deal with it. Sadly, this is why win/loss is only so good of a way to determine skill...but to be honest, because of this reason alone, there
isn't a good way, aside from actually watching the player play yourself. But even this...is a matter of opinion.
To be honest, though, win/loss and points kind of go hand in hand, aside from the fact that win/loss counts losses from when you first started. (But nearly everyone had that problem, keep that in mind. The ones who had it worse are slower learners, or used to be more casual, or have internet/lag issues, etc... It still does show on them a bit.) The more you lose, the more points you lose, and unless you had a good number of games where you got a ton of points from players, it's the same for wins. It's slightly more variable, but still pretty much the same thing.
I'm personally not a fan of the addition of bounty. It's a fun thing, yes, but it's way too easily abused. At least before it, even if points weren't the most accurate thing ever, they were still at least a good way to figure "Hey, I should watch out for this player, he might be good".
